After an experience of a man pulling a knife on him in a fight and stabbing him in the foot as he attempted to do a roundhouse kick, his grandfather laughed at him when he told him of the experience. He said, “It’s time you learned about your culture. He said, “I will teach you to fight like the wind, I will teach you Apache Knife Fighting.”

After several months of training, his grandfather had to travel out of state for work. His grandmother saw him practicing and started to laugh. Robert said, “what’s so funny.” She said, with a smile on her face, you’re doing it all wrong. Robert said that “you don’t know what you are talking about. Just then, his grandmother picked up a stick and hit him on the head and then hit him on his hand. She said, “Who do you think taught your grandfather?”

His grandmother was a warrior as she enlightened him in the ways of the Apache Knife.
